Hello,
I am new to GenNPdC. Trying to learn more about my du Castel family, below is part of a record for this family. Trying to discover where Millefleurs was located. Believe it was near Coquelle. Is there a map or a way to discover where Millefleurs was located? Thank you, Bart Casteel These goods which consist only of an annuity of £ 75 and a form of £ 3 to 400 come from the succession of Jacob du Castel, Sr of Millefleurs, Dutchman, uncle of the suplians who was dispossessed of it in 1689 (?) because of the war, etc. He died in 1696 and after the peace of Riswick the suplians. etc. It appears that Isaac du Castel, a native of Calais, father of Jacob du Castel, settled in Holland in his free time and many years before the declaration of 1669. It was decoded in 1662 and the children at a young age been governed by the Chamber of Orphans of Middelburg....etc. In 1664 the division of these goods was made... between Jean, Suzanne and Jacob du Castel, minor children of Isaac du Castel... etc. In 1669 Jacob du Castel, then Doctor of Medicine residing in Rotterdam, sold a house....etc. He was still a minor and was assisted by Jacob Claudore, merchant of Middelbour as his tutor....etc. He enjoyed publicly and without dispute his property located near Calais until the declaration of war in 1689 .... etc. |

Bonjour Bart,
je traduis votre demande pour les non-anglophones : Trying to learn more about my du Castel family, below is part of a record for this family. Trying to discover where Millefleurs was located. Believe it was near Coquelle. Is there a map or a way to discover where Millefleurs was located? J'essaye d'en savoir davantage sur ma famille DU CASTEL, ci-dessous se trouve une partie d'un dossier pour cette famille. J'essaye de découvrir où se situe Millefleurs. Je pense que c'était près de Coquelles. Y a-t-il une carte ou un moyen de découvrir où se situait Millefleurs ?_________ You can use the Cassini's maps (an interactive online version is on Geoportail), but I've seen no Millefleurs neither near Coquelles, nor anywhere around Calais... Personnal addition : Isaac and Jacob are biblical first names, this may indicate a protestant family (at least at that time), thus it's possible that they left no record in the catholic registers... This should also explain their departure (exile ?) for Holland. Best regards, |

Hi,
Given the name and the place, I think likely that your DUCASTEL ancestors could have their origin in the French Flanders. The name is very common around Tourcoing, as this small town and its neighboring villages were home of many calvinists in the XVIth and XVIIth centuries. Some of them are known to have settled in the Calaisis, especially around 1600 (like the SIX, LEPLAT...). See: https://www.persee.fr/doc/rnord_0035-2624_1...num_80_326_2875 Best regards, François Ce message a été modifié par ffoucart - 05/03/2024 à 15:20. |
