Bonsoir,

hello Laurence,
The documents of "bourgeoisie of Yper are available for consultation originals in municipal archives of Yper. Freddy BAUWENS made a statement of documents ( at least 50 volumes) which we can buy on the spot. Freddy BAUWENS is now very old and he was in an old people's home. I am the vice-president of an association which is called CGVL and which possesses these works. Futhermore I have already consulted originals. Armentières was never the main city. Today it is Lille, and for Nieppe it is Dunkerque. Before the French revolution are the churches which took care of register office records and for the other documents they were made at the solicitor's. Bishop's palaces were then the most important cities and for Flanders and the Lys valley Yper was the bishop's palace. It was important to be public-spirited of Ypres until 1736 At this date Louis XV king of France decided that acts owed beings drafted in French in 2 copies among which the one would be déposited in départment archives (for us Lille). The Lys Valley was french from >1680< but the war lasted on the groud until 1713 and were even needed several years to normalize the taken decissions. Numerous inhabitants of our territory kept until the révolution the habit to settle their bourgeoisie Under the empire several territories which train Belgium today were French departments and the registry office was established on these territories as it was it in France. Best regard, Régine |
