Yvette Hoitink , des Pays Bas est déjà intervenu sur ce forum. Elle a étudié les actes notariés concernant des habitants de Steenwerck et environs qui se sont exilés en Zelande. Sur son site:

on trouve un François SOHIER fils de François qui serait né à Steenwerck vers 1620.

Malgré les lacunes dans les actes de l'époque, je recherche la naissance de François SOHIER fils de François ou toute naissance d'un enfant de père François SOHIER

Sorry I was slow to respond - I thought I would get email to tell me that there was a response here - I think not. So, I will need to sign in regularly to check!

Firstly, I am not at all interested in Obama being related to Demarest & Sohier but I mentioned it to an American who said that the descent is wrong -he is descended from someone called Browning or whatever it is but the guy who put the tree online got the wrong Browning ! - there were 2 in the same area, same time. Easily done and, ironically, a trouble there was with Francois Sohier! :-)

There is obviously a lot here about the Obama thing but I am not sure if you all still think it is correct? Let me know if you want ' proof ' and I'll see what I can do. Maybe you are split?

I think all on here are descended from Sohier. Maybe some from Demarest? I am descended from David Demarest [ c1620 - ?c1693/97 ] and his wife Marie Sohier who moved through France and what is now Belgiqué to Middelburg, Zeeland and to Mannheim before travelling to New Netherland in 1663. There are a few different groups in the US and me here in England trying to make progress on the ancestry of both DD & MS. I have been trying on and off for the last 10 years. I recently swopped emails with Drs Huib J Plankeel about the possibility of organising groups bboth in the US and Europe to work together but I do not think he is interested. He did help Carolyn Nash who wrote an article on the families in 2010.

I would like to start a dialogue with anyone here about the ancestry of those two people. I do have a great deal of information [ inlcuding from Rik Sohier from 2004 ] but will not pass along now what I have because it will be too long. Just want to make contact and see if there is anyone here who is interested please.

I think you are all [ ? ] now agreed that the parents of Marie Sohier were Francois & Marie Ernoult and that her grandfather was Pasquier Sohier and that the line stops there!?
