Nevertheless, on the website "Mémoires des hommes" which has for purpose to honour the memory of those who took part in contemporary wars and sometimes gave their lives for their country, I found the death of the following soldier during the First World War:
Isaïe Tobie Jérémie MESSIAEN, born at Wormhout on May 13 1894, soldier part of the 103 Régiment d'Infanterie, killed on September 6 1916 at Thiaumont, nearby Verdun (Meuse Dept).

Unfortunately birth record for DECLERCK Jeanne Anne Marie °March 13 1896 is not available. Normally in the margin we should have information about marriage(s), date(s) and location(s).
Addition: The website is continuously updating the data available but due to the huge amount of documents it takes times to numerise all registers.

With the marriage date and location, Brigitte SPOEL (MESSIAEN), as direct descendant, is entitled to ask the city house to deliver a copy of the corresponding record.

Addition: You absolutely need the rigt date and place and to justify your identity to proceed on that way. It is the rule for birth and marriage. Regarding death records, every body may ask for a record without any limitation on the period.
When claiming for such a record by postmail, the use is to provide the city house with an enough stamped envelope to transmit the document to the requirer.

Remark 1: In case someone of this forum has the opportunity to read and even to get a copy of the previous birth record (1896), it is much more easy and I can transmit a copy of the document through an email. It saves time but it is only possible for records accessible by everybody (time rule).


Remark 2: Maurice Joseph Paul MESSIAEN, born at Bavinchove on February 12 1893 has been declared under his mother name KERFYSER which was not married at this time. Child was recognized and legitimated with the marriage of the parents (see note in the margin). Birth record is here:

I am interested in you mentioning Isaïe Tobie Jérémie MESSIAEN, born at Wormhout on May 13 1894. Is there a connection with the Messiaen's I am researching??? and or who were his parents????

Our Spoel myHeritage family tree has now over 14500 names and I hope that one of these days I do get the french connection complete too. Who knows one or more members have a family connection to Maurice Paul Joseph Messiaen and Jeanne Anne Marie Cornelie Declerck since my research has shown that it is a name well represented in Nord Pas de Calais. The challenge is of course too that nowadays people don't stay in the same village or town.
